Enhancing Awareness of Cultural and Legal Concepts
In order to expand and include a larger number of girls in order to benefit from the awareness and educational chances provided by the Girls World Communication Center (GWCC) in the educational and legal aspects, the center’s management decided during the year 2004 to open a more spacious two-floors’ building containing 15 classrooms surrounded by a large courtyard on the Ring Road, in the capital, Sanaa, and thus many girls joined.
In the new building, the center was able to provide more opportunities for girls to express their views and develop concepts of discussion in human rights democracy so that girls have the right to express and defend their rights and work to involve girls in all areas of public life on an equal basis with men regardless of their social and economic status. The center has promoted human rights, women's rights and advocacy, which has succeeded in enriching girls' awareness of issues such as gender, social justice and their integration into development, CEDAW agreements and international mechanisms.
Girls World Communication Center (GWCC) has helped to refine the skills of girls in the living global languages, which are essential, both in the stages of educational attainment or in places of job performance in all fields, and it has enhanced the capabilities of young girls in community service by providing opportunities for participation and transfer of knowledge and skills to the surrounding community.
By organizing summer camps for high school graduates, the center educated girls in English, French, computer skills, and in the fields of handicrafts, sewing arts, embroidery, antiques production, and awareness-raising in the areas of health, environment and water. On August 29th, 2004, 120 girls graduated from the seventh summer camp.
