2001 - The First Center in Yemen Concerned with Enhancing the Capabilities of Girls

Girls World Communication Center (GWCC) has a rich history, being the first center that specialized in providing girls with a special environment; to become leaders in their society, given that girls in Yemeni society who have less opportunity for education, thus enhancing their integration into society.



 



On the basis of the relationship between the Foundation of Girls World Communication Center (GWCC), Dr. Antelak Almutawakel and the Water Foundation, as the latter supports the idea of the “Girls World Communication Center (GWCC)”, the girls began to acquire computer skills by taking the girls who joined the training in the Language Center to the computer lab of the Water Foundation. Dr. Almutawakel, who trains girls, according to her work experience with AMIDEAST International and has a background in the use of computers.



 



During the year 2001, the center obtained a computer lab from a donor and in the same year the first training in the field of computers was launched inside the center, in addition to training girls in the basics of the English language and other awareness sessions on how to rationalize water and swimming skills. It also implemented the first regular, independent and voluntary courses that include health awareness in the English language, which was carried out by Dr. Sawsan Al-Rifai, who joined the center during the same year, with the aim of raising girls’ education in the health aspect, and enhancing the students’ inclinations to study medicine by providing them with many terms and carrying out a lot of fruitful awareness campaigns.



 



The volunteer Najeeb Al-Sharafi from AMIDEAST joined the center. The work of the Girls World Communication Center (GWCC) was also extended to include field visits to schools, during which the center was able to implement computer courses for secondary students in schools in the capital, Sana'a, with funding from the United Nations Population Fund)UNFPA).
