Campaign against the use of schools for armed purposes
The Young Leaders Development Foundation, in partnership with the Child Protection Organization, conducted on 28/11/2011 a campaign opposing the use of schools for military purposes. The campaign aims to highlight the risks of using schools for military purposes and shed light on the issue and its consequences, with the hope of drawing the attention of decision-makers. The campaign produced a dramatic film that illustrates the negative effects of this issue on the mental health of children and families. The film was distributed through various media outlets, and posters were also created and placed in different streets of the capital.
In addition, a discussion was held with decision-makers from official sectors such as education, security, media, and local councils, as well as private sectors such as youth, international and local organizations. Each party was discussed regarding their role in opposing the use of schools for military purposes. The film was shown as an opening to the discussion, and each party was invited to participate in the debate. A report was produced summarizing the roles of each party in opposing the issue, as well as recommendations to limit the use of schools for military purposes.
One of the messages that emerged from this campaign is that halting education has negative impacts on students, families, and society. Ensuring the continuity of education by limiting the use of schools for military purposes and building partnerships between the targeted parties or sectors, as discussed in the roundtable, is the optimal solution to reduce this issue. Furthermore, adopting the solutions proposed during the roundtable discussion by decision-makers is the most appropriate way to address the issue.
