Project on Strengthening the Reporting and Monitoring of Grave Violations of Children
The Young Leaders Development Foundation (YLDF) / Global Languages Center for Girls implemented the Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) project to promote reporting and monitoring grave violations of children's rights, funded by UNICEF and in partnership with the Dialogue Foundation for Democratic Development. The program lasted for one year from December 2011 to November 2012, and targeted seven governorates: Taiz, Sana'a, Aden, Al Hudaydah, Saada, Al Jawf, and Marib. Field monitors were trained from March 12-14, 2012, consisting of 17 participants from the seven governorates. The three-day training program began on March 12, 2012, with an opening session attended by Yoko Usawa and Hanan Al-Mudawa from UNICEF, Nawal Dabbis and Osama Al-Faqih from YLDF, and Abdulrashid Al-Faqih from the Dialogue Foundation.
On the first day, the training focused on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was conducted by Ilham Al-Kubsi. The second day focused on grave violations of children's rights and the MRV form, which was conducted by Yoko Usawa from UNICEF. The third day focused on monitoring and its tools, led by Abdulrashid Al-Faqih and Ilham Al-Kubsi. The training evaluation was classified as very good, and based on the participants' feedback, the training was considered excellent and sufficient. All necessary information was provided over the three days. Afterwards, a number of trainees were selected to conduct field monitoring in the targeted governorates to monitor violations.
