Project Summary
Through this proposal, YLDF will contribute to the Global initiative on eliminating child marriage by implementing the joint UNFPA-UNICEF strategy for Yemen and the commitments articulated in the 2018-2019 joint work plan. The project will build on the shared experience of both organizations (YLDF&UNICEF) taking into account lessons learned, good practices, and areas of improvement.
In order to ensure gender, equity and sustainability, the following strategies will be taken into account:
Children/Adolescent Participation:
Participation of children/adolescents in planning the activities, ensuring gender consideration with a focus to ensure the participation of girls is an important principle to guide the strategy of this work. Children and Peer Educators were part of the brainstorming sessions during the development of this project.
Community/Family participation
The participation of the community is an essential element to ensure sustainability. Therefore, the project aims at facilitating the participation of all stakeholders (duty bearers and right holders) in the project, including the local traditional leadership. Ensure the participation of men and boys as agents of change and support linkages between the national and community level experiences, which lead to increased ownership.
Capacity Building:
Ensure sustainability through investing in the capacity building of local human capabilities specifically in addressing child marriage and violence against girls.
Economic Empowerment:
The component will support sustainable income for adolescents who are underprivileged due to poverty and identified as drop-outs. Through YLDF previous experience and success stories of similar activities, this action not only supports economic empowerment of adolescents but also motivate some to go back to school and to be able to protect themselves and their children; if any, from violations.
Community ownership by working with CBOs:
One of YLDF strategies is to work through CBOs in the targeted districts to build their capacity and insure the sustainability of implementing activities in the communities. Therefore, YLDF will work with 10 CBOs to enhance existing structure to provide gender responsive services to adolescent girls and boys that sustained implementing activities in the targeted governorates
