Upgrading informal Apprenticeship Program
Young people in Yemen face a number of challenges due to the protracted war in the country unemployment index and employment scarcity, within this framework, the Young Leadership Development Foundation continued to perform its economic empowerment programs, which it has started since 2006. Upgrading informal Apprenticeship Program, in partnership with ILO and OCHA to help young people overcome some of those challenges through opportunities to acquire a craft that is in high demand in the market, Raising the level of informal apprenticeships in Yemeni communities and defending workers' rights by increasing the capacity of local actors and strengthening partnerships with the private sector to promote economic recovery in communities, which have been endorsed by the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training;
The first phase of the program was carried out from July 2017 to May 2018 in each governorate) Hajj - Abs, Hodeida - Bagel, Lahj - Tibnah, Abyan - Zanzibar training on the fundamentals of occupational health and safety, workers' rights and life skills and enrolled in practical application to upgrade occupational abilities in the workplace for two to six months. The five occupational priorities included: mechanics, bodywork, painting, welding, metal works, sewing, designing and solar power systems, more than 112 male & female teachers received training at the center of the training process. Finally, young learners underwent an entrepreneurial course and graduates were provided with basic tools to enable them to start their own businesses.
LDF implemented carried out the second phase from July 2018 to May 2019, in each of the governorates of Aden, Lahij and Sana 'a, with a total of 12 directorates, benefiting 159 apprenticeships and 139 master craftsmen in four different available careers.
The Foundation is proud that 50% of first-phase applicants and 70% of second-phase applicants in Sana 'a governorate have become part of the economic cycle in partnership with ILO and with the support of the European Union, the Foundation implemented the project's third phase in 2019. The program helped to rehabilitate 320 young men and women from three Yemeni governorates, Sana 'a, Aden and Lahij, through on-site training and through the adoption of professional training methodology in confectionery industry, motorcycle repair, mobile maintenance and beauty.
