Women in Political participation (WPP)
The project aims to strengthen the leadership role of Yemeni women in political participation by promoting networking among political actors s political participation and the leadership role of Yemeni women in political participation s leadership ", targeting women already involved in politics and parties, and strengthening the framework and system of political parties to support women's leadership and raising awareness and reducing negative stereotypes to support women's role in politics.
The project was launched in October 2016 through a consultative meeting in partnership with seven political parties to discuss challenges and recommendations on the part of women's participation in political processes. The meeting focused on priority aspects of the project, including aspects related to capacity-building, access to the parties' internal regulations and laws, awareness-raising and the establishment of communication and educational alliances.
The Foundation implemented the first phase in partnership with UN-Women's Fund for Gender Equality from March 2016 to February 2018, targeting 31 members/political parties and receiving training on various topics, including: Not exclusively, gender equity, political systems, advocacy, and the course concluded with members of political parties developing an action plan In addition, more than 21 awareness-raising sessions were conducted s political leaders ", targeting 382 members and political leaders, enhancing social-responsive leadership.
As part of the project's activities, participants analysed and amended their internal regulations on gender and legal perspectives to make those documents more supportive of women's leadership. Three out of seven parties have recommended amendments to their bylaws and six out of seven parties signed the project's proposal document and committed themselves to change, A networking network was built at the end of the first phase to facilitate communication and coordination among members of political parties to address gender issues and the results were that Yemeni women activists provided pioneering examples in peacebuilding, 43 media channels have prioritized women's role in peacebuilding in their publications and broadcast on International Women's Day and women's roles in peacebuilding, In its first phase, the project's beneficiaries constituted 425 politicians (229 males - 196 females) and 7 political parties.
