Young Business Women's Development Program (YBDP)
Young Business Women's Development Program (YBDP) aims to increase the capacity of Yemeni youth to contribute to the development of local communities and support the establishment of youth-led businesses by providing training, consultation, financial support, and access to long-term financing. The program also aims to improve access to basic training opportunities for youth through courses in business and project management, and to engage them in civil society and local community work through business projects targeting civil society and other youth in particular. The program also aims to establish a community council for youth businesses composed of winning projects in the program and other small youth-led companies that contribute to local development.
YLDF has decided to continue to help solve the problem of youth unemployment and protect them from joining extremist groups that have been intervening in this area since 2006 by working to create young leaders who contribute to the development of their communities. Thus, YLDF designed the Young Businessmen and Businesswomen for Development Program as one of its interventions in this area, to engage youth in civil society and encourage them to participate in civil society through non-governmental organizations and volunteer work. The program enables its graduates to start their own businesses, qualify others for employment, and equip youth and people with vital skills to participate strongly in society. This program is particularly important for young girls who do not enjoy the same opportunities to enter the job market as young males. Two oil and gas companies contributed to this program (Yemen LNG and Almaz SPIE). This partnership helped YLDF-YEDC expand its reach to include new and important target groups from conflict areas such as Marib and Shabwa.
