Three days before the fifth anniversary of the adoption of Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security by the United Nations Security Council on December 9, 2015, the Youth Leadership Development Foundation and Youth Without Borders for Development will organize the Yemeni Youth Conference in Aden tomorrow (Sunday, December 6th, 2020.).
The conference will bring 150 young men and women together representing various Yemeni provinces, as well as Yemeni youth from outside Yemen, where the conference will also be organized online using the "Zoom" program, and participants are supposed to reach policy papers and recommendations representing thousands of Young Yemenis, as well as actively plan efforts to increase the participation of young people in the political process.
The conference aims to validate the strategic framework based on Security Council Resolution 2250, which sets out five key pillars of action: participation, protection, prevention, partnerships, disengagement and reintegration, as the resolution aims to promote youth participation in peace and security, and urges Member States to consider ways to increase the overall representation of young people in decision-making processes at all levels to prevent and resolve conflicts.
In addition to reviewing the strategic framework of the resolution, the young men and women participating in the conference will identify gaps in youth integration efforts, seek to achieve collective agreement on some of the steps that will be reflected in future efforts, and strong recommendations will be made to the Special Envoy of the United Nations, the international community, local civil society organizations and youth-led organizations.
The three-day conference, (sponsored by UNWomen and UNFPA in coordination with the Office of the UN Special Envoy and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights), brings together nine youth coalition groups and networks.
In addition to the meeting in Aden, a large number of young men and women from 19 Yemeni provinces, as well as others currently in countries such as Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Germany and Russia, will participate through the Zoom App. Attendees in the meeting room in Aden will follow all necessary measures to protect against the risk of Covid-19.
